Year 27: the birthday post

As I sit in this pool soaking up the sun, with my favorite glass of wine in my hand, I realized a couple things about life and myself. The year 26 was adventure for me. I was going through the motions; trying to figure what I should be doing with my life and what I actually want to do with my life. I realized that my wants and needs weren’t quite aligning, so I decided to go with dreamer approach.

Following a very trying 2015, I decided life was too short to not do things that make me happy. So I took a leap and created this blog. I’m not where I want to be, but I’m happy I gained the confidence to start it. I purchased the website 6 months before I even posted my first blog. If anyone ever noticed the first blog actually says it was posted in July. It took me four months to actually publish it. Lol. Silly, but true. Only one of my friends caught on and she couldn’t wait to call me out on it either. So November 14th is the day I decided to jump out on faith and share my thoughts with you all. Safe to say that year 26 was the year of confidence for me.

Anyone that knows me, knows how much I enjoy reading and writing. They also know of my dream of being a teacher. This year I dealt with a lot of rejection and let downs but I never let these things bring me down. The road to becoming a certified teacher in Texas has been quite an interesting one but I didn’t let a couple no’s deter me.

December 2016, I finally accepted a teaching position and in March I changed my mind. It didn’t feel right and the organization seemed highly unorganized. So going with my gut, I gave up the position. I was back at square one trying to figure it out but I know in my heart that that perfect opportunity will present itself. I can just feel it. Although, I’m not working the job of my dreams, I have a job. I have steady income until I am able to get to where I want to be.

Feeling grateful, humbled, and blessed to see 27, I decided that this year I will continue to do these three things.

  1. Focus on my happiness. I just want to be happy and remain peaceful. Focusing on things that are important to me and that are key to keeping the sanity that I have maintained. I will be the first to admit that maintaining your sanity, protecting your peace, and just being happy isn’t as easy it seems. In a previous post, I discussed finding your inner peace and protecting it. Find what makes you happy and what puts your mind at ease.
  2. No matter how many obstacles are thrown my way, I will continue to persevere and believe that with hard work and dedication I can accomplish anything. No dream is too big and it isn’t too far-fetched. If you want it, work towards it. Since I learned to read I’d always dreamed of writing books and sharing happy stories with the world. Now I haven’t created and shared my happy stories with the world but I’m proud of the literary strides I have made thus far. Not only did I create a self love blog to inspire and uplift women; I’m now an accredited editor, and a published poet. Just thinking of the things I’ve accomplished this year puts a smile on my face. I stepped out on faith and this year has been filled with some very important “firsts” ever since. My social media influence is growing slowly but surely and I will continue to put forth the effort so that everyone knows Queensized.
  3. Be grateful for your life and your situations. Know that things could be worse than what they are. I’m a firm believer that if you don’t like something, do something about it. Be grateful for your loved ones and the people who support you. Be grateful for good health. Be grateful for everything you have because it can be taken away from you.

April 5th was my birthday. I enjoyed my day at spa castle enjoying the sun and Jacuzzi pools. It was a much needed day away from work and a great way to reset and relax. This birthday of relaxation left me feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and sleepy. lol I really don’t sleep much guys. So after being under the soothing jets for hours, I went home and passed out.

Below are pictures of my favorite lady and I. I love my mom for always making my birthdays special.

Sidenote: She’s a hot 53 and she’s walking around looking like my sister. Love you mama!
